We invite you to discover a hidden gem in Takasaki, where the art of calligraphy meets the art of fine dining.
The Character: “Kashigi” (爨)
We had the pleasure of delivering a custom calligraphy work to Bistro Kashigi, located in Takasaki City, Gunma Prefecture. The centerpiece of this commission is the single character “爨” (Kashigi), which is also the name of the restaurant.
This character is known for its visual complexity and profound meaning. It signifies “to cook” or “to light a fire under the hearth.” It is a symbol of the primitive and sacred act of preparing food. Chosho Yabe rendered this dense, intricate character with powerful strokes, embodying the passion and heat of the kitchen within a monochrome aesthetic.

A Sanctuary for Adults
Bistro Kashigi is a sophisticated hideaway nestled on the first floor of a quiet apartment building, just an 8-minute walk from Takasaki Station.
- The Atmosphere: A chic, modern interior designed for adults to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life. Time flows slowly here.
- The Cuisine: A unique fusion of French and Japanese cuisine, paired with a selection of over 200 wines.

In this serene space where “Tradition meets Innovation” on the plate, the calligraphy serves as a visual anchor, enhancing the sensory experience of every guest.
