Looking back to 2017, we recall a monumental collaboration where the rhythm of R&B met the rhythm of the brush on a national stage.
The Concept: “Wa to Yo” (Japanese & Western)
In 2017, the renowned Japanese musician AI released her album “Wa to Yo” and embarked on a nationwide tour. The title signifies the fusion of “Japanese style” (Wa) and “Western style” (Yo)—a concept that mirrors the very soul of Yabe Chosho’s artistic philosophy: “Tradition meets Innovation.”
A Canvas of Grand Proportions
We were commissioned to create the title calligraphy for the massive stage curtain (Doncho) that would greet thousands of fans at every venue across Japan.
- The Scale: Unlike gallery pieces, this work demanded a presence strong enough to hold the vast space of concert halls.
- The Energy: The brushstrokes needed to embody the powerful, soulful voice of AI and the dynamic fusion of musical genres.
When the curtain fell, the giant calligraphy of “Wa to Yo” appeared, bridging the gap between the silence of tradition and the heat of modern entertainment. It was a visual overture to an unforgettable performance.

魂を揺さぶるコラボレーション
日本を代表するアーティスト、AI（アイ）さん。彼女がリリースしたアルバム「和と洋」を引っ提げて行われた全国ツアーにおいて、ステージの顔となる「緞帳（どんちょう）」の題字を揮毫させていただきました。
「和と洋」。それは、日本と海外、伝統と革新、R&Bと和楽器など、異なる要素を融合させて新しい世界を作るAIさんの音楽性そのものであり、同時に矢部澄翔が追求し続ける「Tradition meets Innovation」の精神と深く共鳴するテーマでした。
数千人の視線を集める「巨大な書」
ライブ会場という巨大な空間において、観客の期待感を最高潮に高めるのが緞帳の役割です。
- 圧倒的なスケール感：繊細な半紙の世界とは異なり、数千人の視線に耐えうる、太く、強く、揺るぎない線を意識しました。
- 融合するエネルギー：AIさんのパワフルで愛に溢れた歌声が聞こえてくるような、躍動感のある筆致で「和」と「洋」を表現しました。
コンサートが始まる直前、会場の照明に照らし出された巨大な書。それは、音楽という「動」のエンターテインメントの中に、書という「静」のアートが鮮烈なインパクトを残した瞬間でした。
