Looking back at the “Saitama WABI SABI Grand Festival 2020.”
I had the privilege of performing as the top batter for this event.
Although it was held online to reach audiences nationwide, the energy at the venue was palpable.
The Masterpiece: “Ryusho Hobu” (龍翔鳳舞)
In the center of the massive canvas, I wrote the four-character idiom 「龍翔鳳舞」 (Ryū-shō Hō-bu).
The characters mean “The Dragon Soars, The Phoenix Dances.”
- Ryusho (龍翔): A dragon flying high into the sky.
- Hobu (鳳舞): A phoenix dancing gracefully.

Together, they symbolize magnificent dynamism, unparalleled power, and vigorous spirit.
I chose this phrase to wish for a future full of energy and prosperity for everyone watching.
A New Challenge: Painting the Phoenix
For this performance, I took on a new challenge: painting a Phoenix alongside the calligraphy.
Using the same brush used for writing, I depicted the legendary bird spreading its wings.
The dynamic black ink lines brought the Phoenix to life, creating a powerful harmony with the strong brushstrokes of the characters.
Reading the real-time comments from viewers during the live broadcast was an encouraging and unforgettable experience.
