Looking back at New Year’s Day, 2018.
I had the privilege of performing at the “Haneda Edo Tsubasa Matsuri” held at the Haneda Airport International Terminal (Main Stage, 4F).

An Improvised New Year’s Performance
I performed two stages to celebrate the New Year.
For the second stage, just moments before I was set to go on, the organizer requested: “Could you write the character for ‘Tsubasa’ (Wing)?”
Without hesitation, I changed my plan on the spot. Embracing the thrill of live performance, I delivered an improvised work centered around the theme of “Wings.”

“Tsubasa”: Soaring from Haneda to the World
In the center of the large paper, I wrote a bold 「翼」 (Tsubasa – Wing).
Surrounding the character with bright red Camellias (Tsubaki) to celebrate the New Year, I added two messages wishing for a leap forward in 2018:
- “Let us spread our wings and soar high into the vast sky.”
- “From Haneda to the world, I want to transmit Japan’s proud traditional culture.”
It was a lively and joyous event to kick off the year. I was deeply moved to see people who traveled specifically to watch the performance.
Thank you to everyone who joined us at the gateway to Japan!
