Looking back at a heartwarming event in 2012.
I visited Tajimi City, Gifu Prefecture, to speak at the “Longevity Celebration” held at Kikyo University (a senior citizens’ college).
A Lecture on “Shodo” for Life’s Seniors
It was a rare opportunity for me to give a 90-minute lecture on the theme of “Shodo” (Calligraphy).
The audience consisted of about 400 seniors aged 60 and above, including around 50 who were honored for being over 80 years old.
Speaking in front of such experienced life seniors was a humbling experience, and I received so much energy from their vitality.
Performance: “Nanzan no Ju” (Longevity as High as the Southern Mountain)
To conclude the event, I performed a calligraphy demonstration.
The phrase I chose was 「南山寿」 (Nanzan no Ju).
It is a phrase used to celebrate longevity, wishing for a life as enduring and unshakable as the Southern Mountain.
Blooming Kikyo Flowers
Alongside the calligraphy, I painted Kikyo (Bellflowers) in full bloom, honoring the university’s name.
I poured my heart into the brush with the wish:
“May you continue to dream, bloom another flower in your life, and remain a guiding light for us, the younger generation.”
The completed artwork, a massive 2m x 6m piece, is now displayed in the main hall of Kikyo University.

2012年の活動記録です。
岐阜県多治見市の桔梗大学（高齢者大学）にて開催された「長寿を祝う会」にお招きいただき、講演と書道パフォーマンスを行いました。
人生の先輩方への講演
この日は、私にとっては数少ない「講演会」の登壇。
60歳以上の人生の先輩方約400名を前に、「書」をテーマに90分間お話しさせていただきました。
80歳以上の方が約50名も表彰されるなど、皆様の若々しさとエネルギーに、私の方が元気をいただいたほどです。
揮毫：「南山寿」と桔梗の花
講演の締めくくりとして、書道パフォーマンスをご披露しました。
揮毫したのは「南山寿（なんざんのじゅ）」。
南山（終南山）のように崩れることなく、長生きすることを祝う言葉です。
大学名にちなんで、咲き乱れる桔梗（ききょう）の花の墨絵も描き添えました。
「人生はまだまだこれから。夢を持って、もう一花咲かせ、私たち若い世代の指針となってほしい」
そんな敬意と願いを込めて書き上げた縦2m×横6mの大作は、桔梗大学の拠点であるホールに展示していただけることになりました。
