First Sunrise Premium Event at Sunshine 60 Observatory: “Fuku Kumo no Gotoshi”

Looking back at the very beginning of 2018.

On January 1st, New Year’s Day, I performed at the “First Sunrise Premium Event” held at the Sunshine 60 Observatory (Sky Circus) in Ikebukuro, Tokyo.

A Sacred Start at 4:00 AM

For a calligrapher, Kakizome (the first writing of the year) is a deeply sacred ritual.
I entered the observatory at 4:00 AM to prepare.

Although I was on standby backstage during the actual moment of the sunrise and couldn’t see it directly, the view of Mt. Fuji from the observatory was breathtakingly beautiful, bathing in the new year’s light.

“Fuku Kumo no Gotoshi” (Good Fortune Like Clouds)

In the clear morning atmosphere, I performed a live calligraphy session.

I painted Mt. Fuji and the First Sunrise, accompanied by auspicious Pine trees.
The phrase I chose to write was 「福雲の如し」 (Fuku Kumo no Gotoshi).

This phrase means “May good fortune gather and rise like magnificent clouds.”
I poured my heart into the brush, wishing for an abundance of happiness to visit everyone in the coming year.

Following the performance, I held a workshop, enjoying a wonderful start to the year with the visitors.
