We revisit a pivotal exhibition held during a time of global uncertainty, marking a new chapter in how we connect through art.
Art in the “International City of Art & Culture”
Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, we successfully held the “Bokusho-ten” (Masumi Shodo-kai Exhibition) at the prestigious Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre.
The venue, located in Ikebukuro’s West Exit area, was undergoing a major renewal as part of Toshima Ward’s “International Art & Culture City” initiative ahead of the Olympics. In the Main Gallery 1 of this cultural hub, approximately 200 works were displayed, featuring new pieces by Chosho Yabe alongside the “Rinsho” (classical study) and creative works of Masumi Shodo-kai students.

A New Way to Experience Art: YouTube Live
Facing a situation where distance and health concerns made physical attendance difficult for many, we embraced a digital solution: Daily YouTube Live Streaming.

This was our first attempt at broadcasting the exhibition experience. Through the screen, we delivered:
- Virtual Tours: Bringing the atmosphere of the gallery to viewers at home.
- Commentary: Chosho Yabe personally explaining the depth and stories behind the works.
- Live Interaction: Sharing surprises and connecting with art lovers remotely.

This hybrid approach of “Real x Digital” proved that the power of calligraphy can transcend physical boundaries, offering a new form of enjoyment for the modern era.
