Celebration of the New Era “Reiwa”: Dedication at Kawagoe Hikawa Shrine

Looking back at a historic moment in 2019.

To celebrate the Enthronement of His Majesty the Emperor and the beginning of the new era, I had the honor of performing a dedication calligraphy at Kawagoe Hikawa Shrine.

The Dawn of “Reiwa” (令和)

April 1, 2019 — The day the new era name was announced.
On this significant day, I performed the calligraphy of 「令和」 (Reiwa) at the shrine’s “Heisei-den” hall.

Unlike my usual performance style, this ceremony was conducted in a traditional Japanese formal attire (Hakama), in a solemn and sacred atmosphere suitable for a Shinto shrine.
The event attracted significant attention, with coverage from five newspaper companies, two TV stations, and Kawagoe City officials.

May 1st: Dedication at the Maiden (Dance Hall)

One month later, on May 1, 2019 — the day the era officially changed.
After a purification ceremony (Oharae), I performed a calligraphy live event at the “Maiden” (Dance Hall) of the shrine to celebrate the transition of times.

The “Reiwa” calligraphy is currently displayed within the shrine precincts.
