Looking back at a vibrant street performance held in my hometown, Kawagoe.
I performed at the “Koedo Kawagoe Spring Festival,” held on the nostalgic Taisho Roman Yume-dori (Taisho Romance Dream Street). The event was titled the “Reiwa Street Live” to celebrate the beginning of the new era.
Calligraphy x Japanese Drums (Wadaiko)
The performance was a collaboration with the Japanese drum group “Wadaiko Hibiki.”
Surrounded by the powerful beats of the drums echoing through the historic street, I engaged in a dynamic live calligraphy session.
Many people gathered to watch, creating an amazing atmosphere filled with energy and enthusiasm.
The Source of “Reiwa”: A 10m Masterpiece
On this day, I wrote two pieces: a 4-meter work and a massive 10-meter masterpiece.
For the 10m long paper, I took on the challenge of writing the full text of the “Manyoshu Baika no Uta 32 Poems with Preface” (万葉集梅花の歌32首并序).
This classical text is famous as the source of the era name “Reiwa.”
Writing such a long and significant text live on the street was a demanding feat. Compared to the legendary 120m performance I did here years ago, 10m might sound “short,” but the density of characters and the meaning behind them made this performance incredibly intense.

地元・川越で開催された「小江戸川越春祭り」での活動記録です。
レトロな街並みが美しい「大正浪漫夢通り」にて、新元号の幕開けを祝う「令和ストリートライブ」を行いました。
書と和太鼓の競演
今回は、和太鼓グループ「和太鼓 響」さんの演奏とのコラボレーション。
腹に響く太鼓の音色とリズムに乗せ、ストリートの真ん中でダイナミックに筆を走らせました。
当日は本当にたくさんの方にお集まりいただき、熱気あふれるライブとなりました。
「令和」の原点：万葉集全文を揮毫
この日は、4mと10mの2つの作品を揮毫しました。
圧巻だったのは、10mの長尺用紙に挑んだ大作です。
書いた文字は、新元号「令和」の出典となった「万葉集 梅花の歌三十二首并せて序」の全文。
実は数年前（東京オリンピックの開催が決まった年）、同じこの場所で「120m」の超ロング書道ライブを行ったことがあります。
その時の距離に比べれば今回はコンパクトですが、万葉集の全文を書き切るという密度と気迫は、勝るとも劣らないものでした。
