Event Report: Spring Calligraphy Performance at Maruhiro Department Store, Kawagoe
On January 3rd, calligrapher Chusho performed a New Year calligraphy demonstration at Maruhiro Department Store in Kawagoe, a beloved local landmark.
The stage was filled with many visitors including students from the calligraphy school, shoppers, and people returning from the nearby Daruma market and hatsumode (New Year’s shrine visit). The audience was so large that standing room only was needed.
For the performance backdrop, Chusho painted traditional imagery of Mt. Fuji and pine trees using ink-wash techniques, symbolizing strength, longevity, and auspicious beginnings. A wild goose, the city bird of Kawagoe, was also depicted taking flight.
The central calligraphy piece read “Zui-sho Shin-shun”, which expresses blessings for a fortunate and auspicious New Year.
Chusho reflected on the theme of “time connecting people in the spring of Koedo (old Kawagoe)”, appreciating the meaningful encounters and shared moments with those gathered.
Grateful for the warm support from the local community, Chusho expressed dedication to continue enriching people’s lives through calligraphy.
開催報告：丸広百貨店 新春書道パフォーマンス（川越）
1月3日、書家澄翔は川越の名物である丸広百貨店にて、新春の書道パフォーマンスを披露しました。
ステージには当教室の生徒はもちろん、喜多院のだるま市や初詣帰りの方々など多くの来場者が集まり、立ち見が出るほどの大盛況となりました。
パフォーマンスの背景には、水墨画風の富士山と松を描きました。富士は力強さの象徴、松は長寿の象徴です。川越の市の鳥である雁も飛翔する姿で添えられています。
この日の中心となる揮毫は「瑞祥新春」という文字で、新年の吉兆と幸せを願う意味合いがあります。
澄翔は「時が人を結ぶ、小江戸の春」というテーマを胸に、来場者とのご縁や共に過ごした時間を大切にしたいと語りました。
地域の皆様からの温かい応援に感謝し、これからも書を通じて人々の生活に彩りを添えていきたいという思いで締めくくりました。
