The entrance is the most important area in Feng Shui. It is the “Mouth of Chi,” where all energy (and opportunity) enters your home.
- Goal: To attract good fortune and invite it inside.
- Recommended Art: Choose art with “Flowing Movement.” A static, heavy character can block energy. Instead, look for dynamic brushstrokes that mimic the wind or a river flowing into the house.
- Best Kanji: “Gei” (Welcome/Greeting), “Kaze” (Wind), or “Michi” (Path/Way).
- Display Tip: Never place a mirror directly facing the front door (it reflects good energy back out). Place calligraphy there instead to welcome it.
2. The Living Room: Family Harmony & Wealth
The living room is the heart of the home (“Tai Chi”). It governs the stability of family relationships and the accumulation of wealth.
- Goal: Stability, peace, and abundance.
- Recommended Art: Unlike the dynamic entrance, the living room needs “Stability.” Choose bold, balanced works that feel grounded. Square compositions or thick, confident strokes work best.
- Best Kanji: “Wa” (Harmony), “Fuku” (Good Fortune/Wealth), or “En” (Connection/Circle).
- Wealth Tip: In the “Wealth Corner” (usually the far left corner from the entrance), hang a piece symbolizing abundance or gold. A work using “Kindei” (Gold Ink) is particularly auspicious here.

3. The Bedroom: Health & Love
The bedroom is a “Yin” space for recharging. It governs your physical health and romantic relationships.
- Goal: Rest, healing, and intimacy.
- Recommended Art: Avoid aggressive, sharp, or overly busy art. You need “Softness.” Choose works written with “Usuzumi” (Pale/Gray Ink) or elegant, curving lines (“Hiragana” style).
- Best Kanji: “Yume” (Dream), “Ai” (Love), or “Sei” (Tranquility).
- Love Tip: Pairs promote partnership. Consider hanging two smaller, complementary pieces side-by-side (e.g., “Sun” and “Moon”, or “Heaven” and “Earth”) to symbolize a balanced relationship.
