In 2025, the Masumi Shodo Class celebrated a monumental return to the public stage. We revisit the passion and energy of “Bokusho-ten 2025,” held at the Tokorozawa Civic Cultural Centre Muse.
Breaking the Silence: The Theme “Yakudo – Jump -“
Since our last major exhibition at the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre in 2020, five years had passed. The pandemic forced a long period of silence and distance. “Bokusho-ten 2025” was not just an exhibition; it was a release of pent-up creative energy. Under the theme “Yakudo” (Jump/Dynamic Motion), we celebrated the joy of finally gathering together to share art.
The Journey of “Creation”
For this exhibition, students engaged in “Sousaku” (Creative Calligraphy), moving beyond simply copying classical texts. This process forces one to face themselves.
The road to completion was not easy. Students grappled with how to express their chosen words, experiencing the struggle and agony of creation. Yet, it is precisely this struggle that cultivates rich sensibilities and expressive power. Through this shared challenge, deep bonds were forged among the students, creating friendships that transcend mere hobbyists.
A Stage of Youthful Innovation
The event featured dynamic performances by the next generation of calligraphers.
- The Junior High Trio: Three students took full ownership of their stage. They selected their own music and choreographed the entire sequence. Under Chosho Yabe’s guidance, they practiced intensely within a limited timeframe. The result was a powerful performance that radiated the raw energy of youth.
- The Elegant Finale: The exhibition closed with a mesmerizing “Water Writing” performance by two junior high students. Contrasting with the high energy of earlier acts, this stage was defined by a mature, serene elegance, leaving the audience in awe of their dignified presence.
Celebrating Excellence & Preserving Memories
To honor the hard work of our younger students, a special award ceremony was held with prizes provided by the Japan Educational Calligraphy Art Academy. The instructors carefully selected the recipients of the “Masumi Kids Awards,” and a warm reception was held to celebrate their achievements.
Finally, to immortalize this special event, we produced the “Bokusho-ten 2025 Commemorative Art Book.” This is no ordinary pamphlet; it is a substantial 108-page, full-color volume. It features every exhibited work alongside personal columns written by the artists, serving as a lasting testament to the thoughts and souls poured into this exhibition.
「墨翔展2025」開催後記 ― 5年の沈黙を破り、書が「躍動」した日。
2020年の東京芸術劇場での開催以来、コロナ禍による長い沈黙を経て、ついにこの時を迎えることができました。
所沢市民文化センター ミューズにて盛大に開催された、眞墨（Masumi）書道教室作品展「墨翔展2025」。その熱気と感動の記録を、少し長くなりますが振り返りたいと思います。
テーマは「躍動 – Jump -」
「書を通じて、再び心と体が動き出す」。
そんな願いを込めた今回のテーマは「躍動」。会場には、この日のために準備を重ねてきた生徒皆様の渾身の作品がずらりと並びました。
「産みの苦しみ」を超えて得たもの
墨翔展の醍醐味は、手本を真似るだけではない「創作」への挑戦です。
自分の書きたい言葉を選び、どのような構成で、どのような線で表現するか。白紙に向かい、自問自答を繰り返す時間は、決して楽しいことばかりではありません。思うように書けない苦しさ、正解のない難しさ。
しかし、その壁を乗り越えて作品を完成させた時、生徒様の表情は一変します。技術の向上はもちろんのこと、何物にも代えがたい達成感と、共に戦った仲間との深い絆（コミュニティ）がそこに生まれました。
観客を魅了した、若き書家たちのパフォーマンス
本展のハイライトとなったのは、次世代を担う小中学生たちによる書道パフォーマンスでした。
【中学生トリオによる、自律したステージ】
実力派の中学生3名は、単に書くだけでなく「魅せる」ことに挑戦しました。自分たちで音楽を選び、全体の構成を練り上げる。矢部澄翔の指導を受けながらも、あくまで主役は彼女たち自身です。限られた時間の中で重ねた練習の成果は、音楽と筆致がシンクロする圧巻のステージとして結実しました。
【静寂と優雅さ、水書きのフィナーレ】
作品展の最後を飾ったのは、中学生2名による「水書きパフォーマンス」でした。
小学生の元気一杯なエネルギーとは対照的に、会場を包み込んだのは凛とした静寂。水で描く儚さと美しさ、そして中学生とは思えない落ち着いた優雅な所作は、観客の心を打ち、深い余韻を残して幕を閉じました。
称え合う喜び、形に残す記憶
会期中には、本部の日本教育書道藝術院より授与された賞の表彰式も執り行われました。講師陣の厳正な審査によって選ばれた「眞墨キッズ」たちの誇らしげな顔は、私たち指導者にとっても最高の宝物です。
そして、この感動を風化させないために――。
展覧会終了後、記念作品集を制作いたしました。全展示作品を美しい写真で収録するだけでなく、出品者一人ひとりの想いが綴られたコラムも掲載。オールカラー・全108ページにも及ぶこの一冊は、単なる記録集を超え、それぞれの「書の道」を刻んだ記念碑のような作品集となりました。
