Looking back to the beginning of 2016, we revisit a heartwarming community event held to celebrate the Japanese New Year.
The Art of the First Brushstroke
We hosted a special “Kakizome” (First Calligraphy of the Year) workshop at the Kawagoe Housing Stage, a comprehensive housing exhibition center in Chosho Yabe’s hometown.
Kakizome is a traditional Japanese event held on January 2nd, where people write their resolutions or auspicious words for the coming year. Under the direct instruction of Chosho Yabe, participants refreshed their minds and committed their new year’s wishes to paper with fresh ink.

The Energy of Future Artists
Simultaneously, we held the “2016 Kakizome Exhibition” featuring works by the young students of the Masumi Shodo School.

The venue was filled with the powerful, uninhibited masterpieces of the children. Their bold strokes and pure energy brought a festive and vibrant atmosphere to the space, reminding us all of the joy of creation.
